-South Mountain Dragway, 5-18-2025
This was my first trip to South Mountain Dragway, a track I’ve been meaning to visit for quite some time but things just never seemed to work out for it to fit my schedule until this weekend. I’ll say it right off the bat, this is a unique track, like no other I’ve been to. And unique in a good way. If I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a thousand times, most racers will tell you racing family is often closer than blood relatives. Now imagine your racing family all gathered together for a family picnic in a nice park surrounded by nature. Now imagine in the middle of the park a drag strip pops up. That, is, in my mind, the best way to describe South Mountain Dragway. It’s so much like a park, a river (alright, it’s a small stream) literally runs through it. All this makes it like racing in a park, surrounded by friends and family. And on this day, you could see your racing family brought out about any kind of race car imaginable, from front engine dragsters right on down to kids racing ATVs. Not to mention a few snowmobiles thrown in. And the MANDRA crew was in the house, so there was a large variety of race cars from that gang as well.
