RECAP Sunday 8/17 Test & Tune Day HEADS UP or Box/nobox Gamblers Race

This was the day we Pilot Tested the Mountain’s New Accutime II Timing system. We finished the 2 day long installation on Saturday evening burning the Midnight oil to get her done. Than Mr. Rusty Crawford his son Blake, began to Train Kathy and Mike Jones the operation of the computer system. After we got a few hours’ sleep we headed back to the track and the Sunday sky’s decided that the track needed to wash away some old sins. RFC Chaplain Mr. Bill Smith called all to the non-denomination service he along with Chaplain Brian Kuhn had their work cut out for them preaching over Larry Baish’s Tractor working it hard to dry the track for the race day. After the words of the Lord we saw the Sun and Blue skies start peeking through the dark clouds. A nice breeze blew to start to dry the track along with all hands on brooms, and blowers getting the puddles off the track by the people that came to watch the racing. An announcement was made to all street cars, spectator cars, race cars and even the EMS ambulance was taking laps to get the wet spots dried up. It was a great time for Photo opts too with the Young sisters Phyllis & Mary with their new Fords, Father and son Team of Tom & co driver Joe Lamano taking turns and pictures at the Starting line and I even saw Donnie Stokes wife smiling driving the 64 Red Polara . Than it was time to let the South Mountain Starting Line gang to get the tracks teeth back by spraying the sticky stuff and dragging the entire track By 1:00 PM we had a pair of cars run down the 1/8 of a mile strip and received their first set of time slips. Guess what with all that rain we were tested again by shorting out our new printer from cracked wiring conduit from the past winter in the ET Booth. Oh well once the smoke comes out it’s hard to get it back in. Thanks to our generous donation from the Talpas last week we reconfigured the timing system to work with the Porta Tree printer and were handing out time slips up in the Tower. The day was a successful test day for us and for all who had Faith and trusted the weather would turn out to be beautiful once again. We are still working out a few Gremlins no pun intended Barry and the ready blue light and auto start operation. We will be doing more Timing system testing this week to be ready for to run our 1st Summit Racing Points and Corvette Challenge. More to follow. In the meanwhile have a safe, productive and Blessed week Mike Natoli and the Folks of South Mountain Raceway.

Sunday RECAP 8/10/14 NT Grudge Fest Sunday @ the Mountain

Ok whoever was praying for snow this past winter must be the same people praying for the Spectacular weather at the Mountain we've been having. I won’t ask you people to stop praying for the beautiful Sunday Sunshine. Our Chaplains Bill Smith and Brian Kuhn were accompanied by Mr. Joe and Angie Martz along with a percussionist that had us all singing some Gospel songs to start our race day. Mike Jones, Jeff Doster and Larry Baish put together a dragger that ratched up our starting line bite another notch. The racing action was all close with Bruce’s Chevelle leaving on the Black Magic Roadrunner , the Mopar power pulled hard and took the win. The Chaplain’s besides spreading the word of the Good Lord had the last word running Donnie Stokes 64 Polara and John Potocki’s Camaro. Both taking the best 2 out of 3. We did not have any; Audi's but there were some innies walking around. We had a few beginner's one from Long Island NY Miss Stephanie Kelly in her pretty two tone Camaro with her proud Father sitting beside her. As always the Bikes and sleds kept us on the edge of our seats making there passes. The Shaeffer’s Front Engine Dragster was making some fast full passes. Pop Red even took a turn but blipped the go pedal a couple of times. Jay Miller reminded Red about it a couple of times. The Old Town Run still has water running so the little ones Duck Derby was a splash. Thanks to all the Great South Mountain Folks that make for a safe fun place to be at. More to come. Stay in touch and God Bless you all. One last thing Friday 8/8/2014 we lost a Friend, Car builder, Crew Chief and car owner Mr. Garabed Balian who he and brother Ray 2004 Super Street World Champion and recently National Event 2014 Winner Super Gas New England Dragway. We will miss your BIG SMILE. RIP my Friend Mike Natoli.

8/3/14 SUNDAY RECAP 1st Duck Derby & HEADS UP NO TIME FUN DAY

Rain, Rain, everywhere except for the Mountain. Can't make this up while every Truck from the Carlisle Truck Nationals except for one headed home in the rain we had another spectacular day of good old fashioned racing on the Mountain. It must have been that we had two RFC Chaplains start our day off with someone spittin on us a little than all of a sudden the skies cleared, the track dried the Traction compound was applied and the day of Racing was in full swing again. All that kept the faith for us getting the track open were pleased and put on a great show of fun racing for the Tanger Road clan. We even had the little ones have some fun with a rubber duck derby race. All who participated received a Free South Mountain tee shirt. The Track was real fast without any down time due to incidents. Thanks to all of you for once again coming out and supporting South Mountain Raceway while we keep our fingers crossed and say our Prayers for those who may need the Lords help. Remember to keep our Troops in our prayers to keep them safe and return home soon. Hope to see you back at the Mountain this coming Sunday to do it all over again. Mike Natoli and the Folks from South Mountain Raceway.

First pass at the new South Mountain Raceway Matthew Hile Matthew Hile
